ISVG recognises and respects the important role of national Scout organisations and established international Scout institutions in delivering Scouting programmes, developing young people and advancing the principles and methods of the Scout Movement.
ISVG does not seek to replace, duplicate or compete with national Scout organisations or international Scout institutions. Its intended role is complementary and collaborative.
ISVG originated through the voluntary interaction of experienced Scout leaders from different countries, and Scout leaders and volunteers continue to form an important part of its international community. ISVG provides additional opportunities for them to remain connected, exchange knowledge, contribute their experience and continue serving society throughout different stages of their lives.
At the same time, ISVG provides a wider space where people from Scouting can engage with non-Scout professionals, specialists, educators, researchers, trainers, mentors, active and retired professionals, volunteers and community leaders. This allows knowledge and expertise from outside traditional Scout programmes to contribute to learning, leadership and community service while enabling Scouting-inspired values to encourage responsible voluntary action in wider society.
Where appropriate, ISVG seeks constructive cooperation with national Scout organisations and other Scout institutions in areas of mutual interest, while respecting their governance, mandates, programmes, identity and institutional independence.
ISVG may also undertake knowledge-sharing, professional, educational, intergenerational and community-development activities that extend beyond the normal scope of Scout organisations. This distinction enables the organisations to contribute in different but potentially complementary ways.
In simple terms, Scouting is an important part of ISVG's heritage and inspiration, while ISVG provides a broader platform through which Scout and non-Scout experience can come together in service to society.
The International Scout Volunteer Group is an international volunteer, knowledge-sharing and community service network inspired by the values of Scouting.
