SDG & Community Action

ISVG recognises the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an important global framework for addressing social, educational, economic, environmental and community-development challenges.

Rather than claiming that every ISVG activity contributes to every SDG, programmes should identify the goals that genuinely relate to their purpose and demonstrate the practical connection between the activity and the relevant development objective.

Depending on the programme, ISVG's work in knowledge sharing, lifelong learning, skills development, youth engagement, volunteering, partnership and community action may contribute particularly to areas associated with quality education, reduced inequalities, sustainable communities, responsible citizenship, partnerships and other relevant SDG priorities.

Country organisations should be encouraged to identify community needs within their own contexts and develop appropriate voluntary initiatives using the knowledge, experience and human resources available within their networks.

The emphasis should remain on practical community impact rather than the use of SDG labels alone. Where an ISVG programme is associated with a particular Sustainable Development Goal, its objectives, activities and outcomes should demonstrate that relationship clearly.

In this way, ISVG seeks to connect its international vision with meaningful local action—mobilising knowledge, experience and voluntary service to contribute to stronger communities and sustainable development.
