Our Role in Society

ISVG seeks to serve as a bridge between experience and opportunity, generations and knowledge, and learning and service.

ISVG seeks to serve as a bridge between experience and opportunity, generations and knowledge, and learning and service.

Every society has people who have accumulated valuable knowledge through decades of professional work, Scouting, education, leadership, research, skilled practice, volunteering and community service. Much of this experience cannot be fully captured in textbooks or formal qualifications. When people retire, change careers or complete active organisational responsibilities, society risks losing part of that accumulated knowledge unless meaningful opportunities exist for them to continue contributing.

ISVG seeks to help preserve and transfer this valuable human experience. Through mentoring, training, knowledge-sharing sessions, publications, digital engagement, professional exchange and community initiatives, experienced individuals can continue contributing while younger generations gain access to practical knowledge, guidance and perspectives developed over many years.

ISVG also creates opportunities for interaction across countries, cultures and professions. A specialist or experienced volunteer in one part of the world may possess knowledge that can benefit individuals or communities elsewhere. By connecting such people through an international network, ISVG seeks to make knowledge more accessible and voluntary service more meaningful.

Its role is therefore not limited to delivering individual programmes. ISVG seeks to develop an enduring culture in which learning continues throughout life, experience is respected and shared, generations learn from one another, and knowledge is transformed into service for society.
